PAT Testing
A professional Health and Safety check of Appliances, Plugs and Leads within the Workplace

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) involves conducting a series of electronic tests and a thorough visual inspection to all portable electronic equipment within a workplace or building.
Every Inspection and test includes;
- A thorough visual inspection to assess the suitability of the equipment for its location together with its general condition and operation.
- Check for correct fuse rating and replace as necessary
- Replace any damaged or faulty plugs
- Rectify any faulty connections
- Carry out metered tests using the latest calibrated test instruments
- Compile records of all test results
- We will draw management attention towards any overloaded power points or indiscriminate use of trailing sockets and cube adaptors.
- Wall sockets are tested for correct wiring sequence and earth connection.
- All appliances which PASS an Inspection and Test are clearly labeled with details to cross reference with the record sheets
- A certificate is drawn up at the end of the Inspection and Test
- Any appliance which fails any part of the Inspection and test is immediately brought to management attention. It will not necessarily be disabled.
- Non disruptive testing for IT/server rooms
Electrical testing should be performed by a person who is competent in the safe use of the test equipment and who knows how to interpret the test results obtained. This person must be capable of inspecting the equipment and, where necessary, dismantling it to check the cable connections.
The desired outcome is to ascertain whether or not the appliance is suitable and safe for use. In order to test each piece of equipment properly, it must first be disconnected from the supply socket and inspected visually by a competent Engineer.
The Engineer checks for signs of damage to the appliance and its supply cord and then tests the functionality of any switches before checking that the fuse within the plug top is correctly rated for the safe disconnection of the appliance. After this process, the appliance is checked with a PAT test machine through a sequence of checks to establish the integrity of the live, neutral and earth wires. The machine will establish a “pass” or “fail” status for the appliance, and the Engineer will label the equipment accordingly.
The results are collated at our offices and a full report sent to you in a format of your choice.
